Sponsored Walk along Devils Dyke
Submitted by: Steadfast Trust news team, 25th Apr 10

Andy, Finley (the dog) and Craig at the start of the walk
The Devils Dyke has become a popular location for sponsored walks from small groups of supporters of the Steadfast Trust, at a comfortable 7.5mile trek surrounded by beautiful scenic countryside.
This year a few Friends of the charity got together to raise some money for the Steadfast Trust Fundraiser Week. On Sunday at approximately 12noon the walk began from the village of Woodditton and concluded at the tranquil village of Reach.
An impressive view along the dyke looking south east.
Devil's Dyke (also called Devil's Ditch) is generally assumed to be an Anglo-Saxon earthwork in eastern Cambridgeshire, England, and one of the largest and best surviving examples in this nation.
It lies on the border of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of East Anglia and Mercia and given the ditch is on the west side, it was built by the East Anglians against their Mercian neighbours, although other theories state that it is also possible that the invading Saxons built the Dyke during their advances against the Britons, who often favoured mounted warfare.
Many thanks to Craig, Andy and Tim (and of course Finley, the dog), for raising £60 towards the £500 Fundraiser Week total.
